A Gesture of Love from Coventry Reserve, Wylie, Texas to Katito, Kenya

Ageno Community is pleased to announce that on July 18, 2013 Coventry Reserve committed to be the first to take part in our new Child Sponsorship program. Coventry participants voted to support five year old Marvin Omondi.  A “Marvin Jar” is used to collect spare change donated to Ageno by the families at Coventry.

Ageno Community is a day program designed specifically for individuals with special needs. We serve children with functional disabilities. We offer Brain Gym instruction, vocational training, spiritual nourishment as well as parent support.

“Ageno” is the combination of two words meaning “I hope” in the Dholuo language native to the area of Kendu Bay and Kisumu counties, in Kenya.

We provide a safe and educational environment that fosters dignity and respect for children with disabilities by providing life enrichment opportunities while growing in Christ and impacting the community. The curriculum is designed to equip the students with life skills and help them learn to live more independently. We are excited to unveil our new child sponsorship program in order to bring hope to the families of our current students and the surrounding community.

What is Sponsorship:

Sponsorship is a special kind of giving that creates a relationship between you and the community in which Ageno is helping to create real and lasting change. It provides more than the satisfaction that comes with offering aid for improving the health and well-being of children; it delivers a special opportunity to witness young lives impacted over time. Through child sponsorship, two lives are changed forever: yours and the life of your sponsored child.

The Ageno Community Sponsored Child:

Starting at $35 a month, you can support our lifesaving work and make a difference for a child in our program by improving their quality of life and giving them hope. The Ageno Community sponsored children receive, among other things: the opportunity to hear the gospel and learn about Jesus; regular Christian training; hygiene training and supplementary food, a caring and safe Christian environment to grow in self-confidence and social skills; personal attention, guidance and love.

Getting to Know Your Child:

Sponsoring a child is just the beginning of an amazing adventure. The caring relationship between a sponsor and child starts with a photograph and a biography. It continues and strengthens with letters, shared pictures and opportunities to get to know each other better and develop a loving, lasting relationship.

Seeing life through your child’s eyes:

Letters and drawings from your sponsored child help you to learn more about daily life through his or her own words and experiences. The letters you receive are in your child’s own words (a parent or sibling will help to write) as well as a translation provided by Ageno Community staff, if necessary. Their carefully drawn pictures and treasured words will help you more fully understand the daily struggles and joys of your sponsored child’s life.

Celebrating special times:

With your help, your sponsored child will have the opportunity for a healthier, fuller life. We’ll send you updates so you can see how your child is growing and developing. As a sponsor, you’ll be helping to change the life of your sponsored child, their family and their community.

We will also send you reminder cards for your sponsored child’s upcoming birthday.

Making a lasting difference:

Ageno Community is about improving the lives of children with functional disabilities thus changing Kenyan culture to accept them as valued and contributing members of society. The best part of child sponsorship is that you can actually see the impact your sponsorship is having. You’ll receive regular status reports from the Ageno Community staff who work with your child, in addition to his or her own letters. You’ll also get newsletters and other information from Ageno Community throughout the year. You can see up close and personal the positive changes you are helping to make in the life of a young child and his or her community.
