Hot News from our Summer Mission Trip
While Texans were sweltering in the heat our Mission team was enjoying cooler temps in Kenya.
This summer’s mission trip team from the USA included six short-term missionaries: a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, three special education teachers and one very energetic high school student.
We spent six days ministering to ten families in Kenya with a total of thirteen children.
The first two days of our mission trip we focused on the task of visiting the families who were receiving wheelchairs from Ageno. This allowed Kelly to measure the child and discuss changes the parents could make in their home to make it more assessible.
This year we decided to focus on families from around Kendu Bay (within a 60 mile radius). In past years we had families come from double that distance adding to travel time and the expense of getting the families to our facility. This turned out to be the best decision. In the past only mothers were able to attend but this year fathers joined us as well. We also had the opportunity to introduce Ageno and our program to some volunteer leaders from the community too! Shortening the travel time allowed us to spend more time with the families.
Our family retreat sessions included:
- Morning Devotions
- Child Assessment
- Parent Training
- Budgeting Lessons for the parents
- Vocational Training for the mothers
- Parent Care (spa & yoga)
- Bible Study
- Social time during meals
- Fun activities for the children
- Games and Activities for the parents
- Visit to the future site of Ageno Community
Ageno Community retreat has become an occasion parents and volunteers cherish. We make each moment count! Consider joining us for our next mission trip in the summer of 2020!
