Carter Harty

Board Secretary

My name is Jacquelyn Carter (Horner) Harty. I prefer to be called by my middle name, Carter.

I was born in Connecticut and lived there until I was 12 years old when we moved to Fort Worth, Texas. I graduated from Boswell High School in 1980 and pursued my BS degree in Elementary Education at the University of North Texas (UNT) where I graduated in December 1984. I met my husband, Rob, at UNT and we were married in May 1984. We moved to Oregon where Rob got his masters degree and then to Indiana where he taught at Indiana University and ran their Recreational Sports Department. We started our family in 1988 with our son, Tripp, and added two more boys, Jamie and Hunter, the next four years. We moved back to Texas in 1989.

I was mostly a stay at home mom, involved in my kids’ schools and volunteering in the community. In 2005, I started teaching at a small private school in Carrollton, Texas. Newfound Academy, was a school for children with special needs and my son, Jamie, who has autism, attended there. I taught the elementary age group, usually about eight kids.

When I “retired” from teaching I decided to find another way to use my love of teaching and volunteer at Coventry Reserve in Wylie, Texas. I volunteered at their Brain Building Center for about three years and later joined the staff full time in the summer of 2020, where I met Lydia for the first time. I taught at Coventry until May 2024 and I am now officially “retired” again.

I am active in my church home and still love volunteering at Coventry. I am currently president of a women’s organization called Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO) which supports education for women. I love to travel and spend time with my family and with my dog, Jack.

I am a big supporter of Ageno and I am so excited to see it grow and bless those who need it.
